Status: Full-time, temporary. Work hours will include weekend and evening hours. The Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile State Historic Site is open daily from 10am - 6pm CST. It is preferred that the intern is available for work from May 16 to Sept 15, 2012, but these dates are negotiable.

Minimum Qualifications:
Undergradutate students of senior status in Public History, U.S. History, American Studies, Museum Studies, Natural History, or a related field, with class-work or experience in historical primary and secondary source research. All applicants must demonstrate a general knowledge of the humanities and/or history, organizational skills, strong communication skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, and the ability to work independently as well as with a variety of people.
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduate student in Public History, U.S. History, American Studies, Museum Studies, Natural History, or related field, with class-work or experience in historical primary and secondary source research.

Although any student in the United States meeting the above requirements may apply for an internship, preference will be given to those students who are attending a college, university, or vocational/technical school within North Dakota and who are North Dakota residents. The internship may be taken for academic credit. It is the student’s responsibility to contact their school or advisor to obtain academic credit within the school’s guidelines.
Successful applicants will undergo a criminal background check. The Society may decline to offer an applicant an internship based on the results of that check.

Summary of Work:
The intern will share a lead role in the “Memories of the Missile Field: Oral Histories of Life in the Grand Forks Missile Field" project at the Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile State Historic Site. This process includes scheduling interviews, conducting and recording interviews, transcribing recorded interviews, and indexing transcribed interviews.
The intent of these interviews is to gather personal histories from surviving individuals who worked or lived in and around the 321st Strategic Missile Wing. Interns will gain experience in working with the methods and materials necessary to conduct oral history interviews.
The intern must also assist with and observe all areas of operation at the Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile State Historic Site. The intern will be expected to work with visitor services, operations, public relations, interpretive programs, historical research, and the general maintenance and security of the artifacts and the historic buildings on the sites, along with miscellaneous duties associated with the sites' operation. Additionally, the intern will be responsible for attending on-site training and completing any assigned supplemental reading.
