The Western Museum of Mining & Industry is currently seeking an experienced leader to serve as the next Executive Director. This position requires a strong understanding of museum operations in accordance with the highest professional, educational and ethical standards.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- The next Director will be a creative leader with high integrity and outstanding strategic and communication skills. S/he should have intellectual curiosity and breadth of knowledge, political savvy, and an enterprising, entrepreneurial spirit.
- The Director must have proven budgeting, fund-raising, managerial, financial and administrative abilities, and be a mentoring and motivating leader of staff. S/he should have hands-on management and team building skills, including the ability to maintain and inspire a strong staff, set clear priorities and delegate effectively. The Director should be a builder and enhancer rather than a maintainer.
- Strong presentation and communication skills are essential. The successful candidate must have a desire and ability to promote the values and purposes of the Museums to a wide range of audiences
- Candidates should have proven business acumen including discipline and focus in setting realistic priorities, meeting or exceeding goals, and running a fiscally sound operation.
- Candidates should have an outgoing and optimistic personality. Imagination, gracious self-confidence, good humor and a high level of energy will be valued. Above all, the successful candidate must have a passion for and be a persuasive advocate of the Western Museum of Mining & Industry
- Ability to work well with others and maintain professional manner using tact, initiative, good judgment and confidentiality
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Museum Studies, History or similar Field
- 5-7 years prior experience in museum Administration
- 5 years prior experience working to engage staff and volunteers
- Proven ability to develop and manage board, staff, and volunteers as a team.
- Proven ability to build relationships with constituencies including donors, business and civic leaders, foundations and governmental institutions.
