    Deadwood History, Inc.     JOB TITLE:  Education Director

    REPORTS TO:  Executive Director

    SUMMARY OF POSITION:  Responsible for the development and implementation of educational programs for youth.


    • Lead and develop educational programs, tours, and events for youth.
    • Create new educational programs for youth. 
    • Plan and implement school year programs such as: Weekend Workshops, Snoozeum, Festive Fridays, Family Fun Day, etc.
    • Plan and implement summer camp programs such as: Archaeology Camp, Pioneer Camp, Dino Camp, Native American Lifestyle Camp, etc.
    • Build and maintain relationships and collaborations with local and regional educational organizations and groups. Serve as a liaison with local schools, school districts, universities, families, and children. 
    • Collaborate with exhibits staff to develop interpretive materials and programs.
    • Supervise the activity and development of education department staff, interns, and volunteers.  Build staff’s capacity to develop and deliver exceptional programs and resources.
    • Book school tours, including invoicing and maintaining shared calendar.  Schedule and manage staff and volunteers for the tours.
    • Travel to schools, community centers, and other locations to develop and maintain a public outreach presence.   
    • Order and maintain the inventory of program supplies.
    • Work with communications department to develop marketing and public relations strategies for youth programs and create and deliver program flyers to schools and other area locations. 


    •  Assist with public programs as sponsored by Deadwood History, Inc.
    • Other duties as assigned. 


    • Advanced degree in education, history, museum studies, or related field.
    • Prior experience working with children in an educational setting.
    • Proficient in a variety of computer technology and social media outlets.
    • Some weekend and evening work required.
    • Knowledge of preK-12 learning and teaching strategies, curriculum, and standards.
    • The duties of this position include the ability to stand for long periods of time, sitting, bending, kneeling, and lifting or moving objects up to 30 pounds; climbing stairs and walking over varied terrain; and exposure to outdoor elements is necessary, at times.  
    • Must be able to see, speak, and hear effectively.
