    As the Curator of Education, this role is integral in crafting & managing educational & outreach programs that engage citizens across generations, elevating the prominence of educational & historical narratives in community engagements. Acting as a hub for collaboration, it connects with local & regional professionals to amplify the museum’s programs & initiatives within the community. Charged with both the innovation & implementation of a variety of educational pursuits, this role presents an invigorating & demanding environment that guarantees a harmonious work-life balance.     On-the-Job Training: New hire orientation & training are designed to familiarize our next Curator of Education with departmental procedures & to cultivate an understanding of the Smoky Hill Museum’s educational programming objectives. Management staff from the museum share valuable insights on developing programs, engaging with the community, & collaborating on exhibits. This training environment promotes an atmosphere of ongoing learning, motivating our next new employee to refine skills & prepare for a rewarding & satisfying career in the museum field.

    Duties:
    · Responsible for adult, school, community & outreach programs & other educational activities.
    · Member of museum planning team for overall management oversight.
    · Plans, organizes, coordinates & implements a balanced series of programs designed to complement the educational mission of museum.
    · Stays current with local, state & national trends.
    · Contracts with local & regional craftsmen, researchers, speakers, performers, etc.
    · Coordinates outreach activities; monitors & evaluates services & activities.
    · Recruits, trains, & works with volunteers; plans for & supervises volunteers, craftsmen & educators.
    · Schedules activities & support services.
    · Works with exhibits team to develop programs & interactive elements for exhibits.
    · Participates in grant writing, as needed.
    · Prepares publicity.
    · Plans & develops record & report systems.
    · Contacts with public are frequent.
    · Uses clerical equipment, including computer hardware & software.

    Education:
    · Bachelor’s degree in history, education, or a related field.

    Experience:
    · Three (3) years of experience in museum education or related field.
    · Program development experience.

    Requirements:
    · Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.

    Work Type:
    · Light, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

    Equipment:
    · Calculator, computer, copy machine, fax machine, hand tools, printer, telephone, & typewriter.

    Hours:
    · Monday – Friday.
    · 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
    · Works special events that may include evenings & weekends.

    Starting Pay DOQ EOE:
    · $45,247 – 47,528/yr.
    · $21.76 - 22.85/hr.

    Paid Time Off:
    · 48 hours of vacation available upon hire; additional 48 hours earned during the year (96 hours in first year).
    · 96 hours of sick leave during first year.
