Position Title: Curator
Period: Full-Time Position
Overview
The Legacy of the Plains museum boosts an impressive library of manuscripts, books, periodicals, collections, art and other artifacts. The topics include early history of settlement in the North Platte River Valley, agriculture practices, farm implements, and several editions of local newspapers.
The position will provide career relevant, hands-on experience with collections, exhibit design, archival and manuscript materials, and the position will assist with other departments on occasion including events, administration, marketing, and others.
Responsibilities:
- · Assist the Preservation Committee and it’s subcommittees and attend their meetings
- · Update accession records with description, pictures, location, and other pertinent information
- · Assist with research requests
- · Assist with organizing, accessioning, and shelving of donations and accepted collections/archival records
- · Provides researched social media posts and columns for local media outlets
- · Coordinate volunteers to accomplish objectives described in the collections/archives plan
- · Provide written and oral reports and meet deadlines
- · Assist with exhibit design
- · Assist committees with reorganization of collections and artifacts
- · Assist front end when needed
- · Assist with events and other museum functions
- · Preform basic office duties when called up
- · Other duties assigned by the Executive Director

- · Solid problem-solving skills
- · Moderate computer skills needed, especially PastPerfect, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- · Excellent organizational, multi-tasking and leadership skills required
- · Excellent oral and written communication skills required
Requirements:
- · Bachelor’s degree or relative work experience preferred
- · Knowledge of archives and records management preferred
- · Computer skills and knowledge of office software packages and PastPerfect
Compensation: Salary: $35,000 per year.
