Education and Outreach Coordinator
The Education and Outreach Coordinator reports to the Executive Director. The Education and Outreach Coordinator is a full-time post. This position requires a valid driver's license and the regular usage of a vehicle. Must be able to stand and sit for periods of time and lift 30 pounds unassisted and pass a background check.
The Education and Outreach Coordinator’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Develop the annual educational budget and present it to the Executive Director.
Develop and implement the museum’s Tidbit program (ages 6-10). Various duties include creation of curriculum, prepping of materials needed, and collaboration with members of the community.
Keep accurate records of participants served and hours of volunteers.
Develop an annual educational plan to be presented to the Executive Director.
The Education and Outreach Coordinator is in charge of supervising other employees as determined by the Executive Director and is responsible for volunteers within education including the proper training and actions of volunteers.
Provide requested information to the Executive Director for grants while also researching and applying for independent educational granting opportunities.
Work with other staff as needed for various programs, exhibits, and youth volunteer duties and expectations.
Develop and implement an educational program(s) for children ages 10-16 and for general members of the community.
Create relationships with Sheridan County Schools and the Sheridan Community College to encourage school tours, independent projects, youth volunteering, and overall enjoyment of the museum.
Work to incorporate Wyoming State Educational standards for social studies, history, and civics into various aspects of the museum.
Work with collections personnel to create educational folders for various ages and grades.
Work with collections personnel to create and maintain an educational collection. Items within should be used in various educational activities whether programed or during school tours.
Monitor, evaluate, revamp, and implement any new or current hands on items within the museum’s main gallery space.
Attend Public Pulse as assigned by the Museum Director to discuss various aspects of the museum, our mission, and overall happenings.
Serve on various advisory committees from tourism to education as a museum representative. These will be assigned by the Executive Director as they occur.
Travel for Tidbit to various outlier communities within Sheridan County. This will require a monthly rotation of locations for Tidbit along with a report to the Executive Director.
Assists with the recruitment, training, and management of Museum volunteers.
Create various posters for educational activities to be used within the community, handed out in schools, and shared on social media.
Write on a routine basis for the museum’s blog.
Other duties and tasks as assigned.
Wyoming is an at-will state and all positions are considered as such. Ongoing assessments of work will take place with a yearly evaluation occurring during the month of original hire.
A completed self-evaluation including goals for the next calendar year shall be submitted by December 1 to the Executive Director.
Professionalism - Represent the Museum to the highest standard demonstrating Museum values of respect, integrity, excellence, learning, and freedom of expression. Act as an ambassador of the Museum at all times to peers, parents, teachers, attendees, and museum staff and volunteers. Work collaboratively with co-educators, staff and volunteer coordinators to ensure smooth operations and exceptional customer service.
Organization - Create activity plans to prepare collaboratively with co-educators, prepare duties for teen volunteers, communicate with parents, staff, volunteers, and on occasion board members to ensure program needs are met. Gather and prepare supplies for crafts, art projects and/or experiments, ensure that crafts and/or experiments are set and cleaned up after each class.
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Childhood education, Museum Studies, History, or similar field
0-2 years of progressive work experience
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-5 years of progressive work experience within a related field
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Ability to work without direct supervision, exercising considerable initiative, independent analytical and evaluative judgment.
Knowledge of how to achieve institutional goals while complying with industry standards.
Knowledge of arts, cultural or historic policy and procedural issues.
Ability to interact and communicate with the public through customer service, written form, tours and programs.
Ability to train, organize and manage volunteers.
